How to create an All-star LinkedIn profile – by Kylie Chown.
A great LinkedIn profile forms the basis of your LinkedIn success.
Despite this, people will jump straight into reaching out, connecting, and engaging, without completing their profile first.
LinkedIn reached the 500 million member milestone last April. With 2 new LinkedIn members signing up per second, it’s a great time to make sure you have an All-star LinkedIn profile
But before we start, what exactly is an All-Star profile?
There are 5 levels of what LinkedIn calls ‘profile strength’ when you start editing your profile:
All-Star is the highest rating that LinkedIn gives for a profile – it means your profile is complete.
How do you gain the All-Star rating?
Here are the essential steps to create an All-Star LinkedIn profile:
1 – Have a click-through headline
2 – Create a personally branded banner
3 – Present with a professional profile photo
4 – Make sure you claim your LinkedIn vanity URL
5 – Convey a compelling message in your summary (and remember to link or add relevant external media and links to showcase)
6 – Complete the experience section
7 – Make sure your contact details are correct and up to date
8 – Have the right skill endorsements
9 – Get recommendations
10 – Include education background
11 – Include volunteer experience, publications, courses and certifications
12 – Follow relevant companies
13 – Join relevant groups
14 – Grow your network
15 – Give value to your network
16 – Engage with your network
Extra tip – avoid buzz words. Every January, LinkedIn releases a ranking of the Top Ten most over-used buzzwords on LinkedIn profiles. These are adjectives that are used so often in LinkedIn headlines and summaries that they become almost completely meaningless.
The LinkedIn profile page is the foundation for your personal branding so it’s important you get it right from the start.
